What are the negatives about Newport News, Virginia?

Q) I have noticed that houses in Newport News, virginia are priced lower than many surrounding areas, yet their schools appear in Newsweek's top 1000 schools. What am I missing?

A) Property values are based on many things... not just schools (in fact, very RARELY schools)... is the area in high demand for buyers? are there lots of job opportunities and developement in the area? Supply and Demand applies to property values just like it does everything else... if there are only 2 properties for sale, and 1000 people who want to buy it, it will be more expensive because SOMEONE will be willing to pay the price... if there are 1000 properties and 2 buyers, everything is cheap cuz there are so many options that the thing that stands out is the cheaper price...

A) depends on what part of newport news. down by the shipyard none of those do credit checks but its also a sketchy area. look in apartment guide.com its where we found some of them.

A) There's a horse track called Colonial Downs just off RTE 64 headed up towards Richmond. They also have an off-track betting facility next to the Hampton Coloseum.

Newport News Virginia Recommendations?

Q) I'll be attending a school down there for 3 months and just wanted to see if anyone had any reccomendations for things to do, night life, etc. I'm 26 so things with alcohol are reccomended. Also, does anyone need a friend?

A) I've been out of that area for a year, but you should have no problem finding some nightlife--it isn't New York, but there is plenty there. One thing I'd recommend is taking advantage of Virginia Beach--as soon as it gets warm there are free concerts just about every weekend, and its a pretty nice beach that doesn't cost a fortune to bring a date to.

Now Newport News Virginia didn't get snow last year but this year it is getting really cold. Will it snow?

A) It sure doesn't look like it; not in the next seven days, anyway.

Great restaurant in Newport News, Virginia?

Q) I have a friend who just moved there and I would like to send her a gift card for a local, non-chain place. Type of food is not particularly important but a place with a great atmosphere is.

A) I grew up in Newport News, and moved when I was 22. The best "non_chain" restraunt I ever been to (and most memorable being young,) Was Luigi's Italian Restaurant. Even Mr. Luigi himself would walk around asking how was your dinner!!

I need to hire some muscles in Newport News Virginia!?

Q) I am moving across country in a rental truck and need a couple of really strong men to help me unload. It is quite a bit of furniture and there are three stories. I tried local moving agencies but they won't unload a truck they didn't load themselves. I have heard that sometimes guys from the fire department will do it for $$ per hour. Anyone know?

A) I seriously don't think firemen have the time to unload your rental truck. I would think that if you put an ad in the classifieds of your local newspaper you would get some responses. :-)~
